The Invisible Carry-on is a result of a 2017 collaborative design project between OPPOSETHIS and other fellow travellers. The aim - simplifying air travel. The first step of simplification was to make this bag easy to pack, have enough room within the check-in limit, and be security checkpoint friendly. The second step was adding a contracting/expanding feature. This allows the Invisible Carry-on to be used as a somewhat-regular backpack once you arrive and eliminates the need to bring an additional smaller bag.
Ironically, a design with so many requirements was facing the same “complexity” problem it was trying to solve. Therefore, as a way of combating the uber-functionality, special attention was paid to its aesthetics. Instead of a boxy square shape, the subtle droplet form makes its size more manageable and its technical nature feel more inviting. The side flaps further complement this shape by wrapping around its sides and at the same time hide certain zippers to provide a cleaner and simpler look that is in-line with our Invisible aesthetics.
