Design update 2019 - CARRY-ON
Each year we refine our designs based on your feedback and our own evolving understanding. We kick off 2019 with two updated Invisible bags - the THREE and CARRY-ON. To read about changes made to the THREE click here.
The 2019 CARRY-ON takes a more focused and defined approach to one bag travel. Instead of a 5-day take-anywhere 2-in-1 carry-on and daily backpack (a mouthful already), it was redesigned to focus more on short city-break/business trips. Key points:
- A smaller size that mean the Carry-on is not only great as a travel bag, but also, as a daily backpack.
- Redesigned front pockets for more space and usability.
- Removed the side flaps and expanding feature to combat the feeling of “this looks complicated and heavy”.
The premise of the first Carry-on was a travel bag that could be used as a daily/exploration bag once you arrive at your destination. It was of considerable size and thus had to have the ability to contract into something more manageable if you wanted to use it as a day bag. Great in theory, but in reality, it would still end up being too big for most of our taste. Something was missing, and we couldn’t put our finger on it. Only after having a few conversations with customers did it hit us that instead of trying to make a travel bag act like a regular backpack, it would be much more productive to design a regular backpack that has the added benefits of a travel bag. In other words, the premise of our first design did not align with the end result we were looking for.
This simple change in our thought process, I’m happy to say, made all the difference. After testing it out on a 3-day long trip, I never felt like I was lugging around a travel bag or wished I would have brought something smaller. In addition, once we removed the expanding feature and side flaps, we had more freedom to improve the front pockets and make them deeper.
We do realise that traveling, like most things, is very personal. While some are happy to sacrifice space for something else, others desire the opposite. That’s why those who prefer the larger Carry-on will still be able to purchase it through the Archive.
